SPCA "SOS" Program Saves Family Dachshund

SOS Program Saves Family Dachshund
Lauren Annan lost her job and almost her mini Dachshund, Princess Juliet.

Faced with a pet deposit that she was unable to afford at her apartment, Annan surrendered her doxie this summer to the Placer Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. "I bawled my eyes out and my kids were devastated."

It's a situation that is happening daily across the country during grim economic times. However, Princess happened to land at an agency that had a solution.

Shortly after the dog arrived, the Placer SPCA near Sacramento started a program designed to give responsible pet owners, hit hard by the recession, a chance to keep their pets. The SOS program offers a loan or gift to pay for rental deposits, vet bills and other expenses that otherwise would have forced pet owners to give up their pets. sacbee.com
